Lourinhã Mercy Church
The Lourinhã Mercy Church is a church of Renaissance features with a single nave, a hall-like structure, with a three-pane ceiling enlivened by coffered ceilings (maceira) with traces of polychromy, and stuccoed walls. The high choir is supported by two stone columns, with circular holy water fonts incorporated into the shafts. It measures approximately 18m x 7.5m x 7.2m.
The main altar, located on a higher level, has an 18th-century altarpiece in the centre with the coat of arms of King João V, flanked by two paintings representing Our Lady of Mercy and Our Lady of Piety. These paintings constituted the first Royal Flag of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Lourinhã. At the base of the altar, we see a life-size image of Christ in the tomb, which is taken out every year in the Burial Procession of the Lord. Next to the Epistle, the 13-seat Tribune of the Electors (chair), an 18th-century work, topped with the coat of arms of King João V, and the chair with an ornate backrest of the Provider, stand out. Opposite, the chapel of Senhor dos Passos, with a gilded altarpiece.
Measurement points and source location
The sound source was placed on the pulpit, and in the middle of the high choir. The acoustic acquisitions and recordings were carried out in five locations in the Church: four located in the area foreseen for the faithful, in the nave, and one located in the Tribune of the Electors (chair).
